Second Rollover For The Week
June 23, 2009 - At 1130hrs East Berwick's Engine and Salem's Rescue were dispatched to Beech Grove Rd for a reported Dump Truck rollover. 274 Engine arrived to find the vehicle lying on its side down an approximate 50' embankment after rolling over at least twice and dumping its load of 10 tons along the fence of the PPL Nuclear Power Plant. Personnel found driver self extricated and assisted with patient care before EMS' arrival and remained on scene for hazard and traffic control before going available a short time later. Fire crews were assisted by MICU 61 out of Bloomsburg, Minuteman Towing and Spill Response and the Salem Twp Police Dept.

Smoke Showing On Arrival
June 21, 2009 - Around 1000hrs crews were alerted to a Fire Alarm Activation at the Legett & Platt Corp. on Salem Blvd. Engine 274 first up on the air responding was given info of a general alarm activation in the building. Engine 274 was first to arrive finding smoke showing from the rear of building as Chief 274 (Dalrymple) assumed OIC duties requesting extra rescources be added to the run. Crews made rapid entry finding fire visible involving some electrical machinery which had extended into the walls of the building. Personnel achieved rapid knockdown limiting further damage and had the fire marked under control and out all within the 30 minute mark, with the last of the units taking up and going available a short time later. In addition to Companies 174 and 274, Salem Twp crews were assisted by Shickshinny Fire, Summerhill and Berwicks Ranger Hose Co along with an EMS unit also out of Berwick. pics to be added later

East Berwick Responds to Kitchen Fire
May 6, 2009 - At 2033hrs both Salem Twp stations were sent to the 1000blk of E 10th St for a reported "fire in a residence." Both Engine 274 and 174 were out in moments and updated that this is now reported as a kitchen fire with a burn victim. Chief 274 (Dalrymple) first to arrive, finding a single story ranch with nothing showing and assumed OIC duties assigning 274 Engine to the address with 174 taking the hydrant approx 50yds away. Upon initial entry crews found moderate smoke throughout the home with fire apparently out on arrival. Crews were also informed that a male resident was transported from the scene by a family member to the hospital just blocks away suffering from 1st and 2nd degree burns sustained in extinguishing the fire which originated on the stove top prior to FD's arrival. Crews checked surrounding stove areas noting minor extension to cabinets and ceiling area and verified the fire was out using Thermal Imaging Cameras. Salem and East Berwick units remained on scene for a short time assisting with ventilation and assisting homeowner with clean up before returning to service. Fire personnel were assisted by MICU 92 from Berwick EMS and Salem Twp Police Dept.
Early Morning Run Sees Engine Handle Vehicle Fire
May 3, 2009 - Personnel were awakened around 0410hrs to Salem Blvd inside the Riverview Block Corp for a reported vehicle Fire. Engines 174 and 274 arrived simualtaneously finding a well involved Pick-Up and split crews strectching two 1 3/4" preconnect hoselines for extinguishment and back-up needs before taking up and going in-service nearly 2 hours later. Fire personnel were assisted by an EMS unit from Berwick Ambulance along with the Pennsylvania State Police for investigative needs.
